It wouldn’t be that far-fetched that the Pet Shop Boys were guests in the Westbar in Frankfurt. The structure of their music matches the clarity of the concept of this location in Frankfurt’s Westend. Modern, rather puristic design gives the Westbar a timelessness that makes us as guests happy to come back at any time – just as hits by the Pet Shop Boys still sound fresher than some hip music fashion trends even after decades.
Not much is missing that the Westbar has been around for a decade. On December 15th, 2005, Volker Hochhuth, the sole owner since 2011, opened the bar with the support of three partners. After starting his career as a hotel manager at the Schlosshotel Kronberg, Volker knew early on that his own path required the greatest possible independent environment. The stopover in the Frankfurt Operncafe was another piece of the mosaic that led to the conception and opening of the Westbar as a logical next step.
In fact, the Westbar is different from the surrounding Westend restaurants. Conceived as a pure bar, the focus is on a diverse drinks menu. A large selection of German white wines is complemented by international products that are produced around the world. The variety of gins stands out from the varied cocktail menu – a menu well above standard.
The small but fine selection of dishes underpins the actual goal of heading to the Westbar: Here you can meet friends for a drink to talk and philosophize. And that across all age groups and all seasons. In summer, the bar is supplemented by 60 outside seats with their own summer terrace.Perhaps you will also get in touch with Edwin, who as a guest from the very beginning has almost been part of the inventory and has the only, marked regular seat at the front left of the counter. Or you can rent an area of the Westbar for your own event. The shape means that small units can be separated from regular operations without losing the bar character.
Volker himself is present 7 days a week, supported by a team of bartenders and service staff. And he’s proud of his western bar. Because I don’t really buy his understatement from him when he modestly reports that he is named in Focus No. 41 of October 6, 2014 as one of the three best wine bars in Frankfurt.
